How to use

Choose one static PNG, JPEG or WebP image that you may use. Start by choosing your own image; no sample image is loaded. The selected filename and dimensions appear after decoding. Clear removes the source and output. Processing takes place in your browser.

Fit entire image keeps the whole image with padding. Fill and crop center removes parts of the longer dimension. Choose transparent, white or black background. The preview updates immediately. Create icon files creates files and link tags; changing input invalidates previous downloads.

Reading the result

favicon.ico contains PNG-compressed 16, 32 and 48 pixel images. Separate PNG files include those sizes and 180, 192 and 512 pixels. The 180-pixel file is apple-touch-icon.png. Every file uses the same confirmed settings.

Inspect small sizes for readability. Resizing cannot restore lost detail. Transparent padding is genuinely transparent: the page color seen behind it is not necessarily saved in the file.

Two examples

A 400 × 200 image fitted into 32 pixels becomes 32 × 16 with 8 pixels of padding above and below. Center crop scales it to 64 × 32 and removes 16 pixels from each side. Both downloads are 32 × 32.

A square 256 × 256 image requires no crop. Transparent preserves source alpha, while white or black composites it on that color. JPEG has no alpha, but fitting a rectangular JPEG can add transparent padding.

Installing files

Use the link tags in the downloaded favicon-tags.html file in your page head.

Favicons can remain cached. Verify the served file and follow your usual cache-refresh process. These tags do not create a web app manifest, install an app or cover every platform-specific icon requirement.

What limits apply?

PNG, JPEG and WebP up to 10 MiB, 16 million pixels and 8,192 pixels on each side. Signatures and dimensions are checked before decoding. Animated PNG/WebP, SVG, GIF and unsupported formats are rejected. Renaming a file does not convert it.

Why does decoding fail?

A corrupt, truncated or unsupported encoding may fail despite a familiar extension. Export a static PNG/JPEG and retry. Changing input removes the old downloads, preventing stale output.

Will ICO work everywhere?

The file uses PNG payloads in a standard ICO directory. Compatibility with every operating system, legacy editor and browser is not guaranteed. Test your target environments.

Are images stored?

No account or cloud source storage is provided. Keep your original artwork; generated small icons do not replace an editable source.
