XML Sitemap Generator from a URL List

Paste your website URLs to create an XML sitemap file in your browser.

Processed in your browser.

If all inputs are empty when you leave a field, the example returns. Existing input is always kept.

Use at most 5,000 URLs, each shorter than 2,048 characters.

YYYY-MM-DD. Applied to every listed page; leave blank when dates differ or are unknown.

How to use

This tool is for website owners who already have a list of pages. Paste one absolute URL per line, optionally enter a shared last-modified date, and generate. The initial example works immediately; focusing a text field clears the example once. Clear removes input and output. If all inputs are empty when you leave a field, the example returns. Existing input is always kept.

Use the review list to confirm the exact addresses before copying or downloading sitemap.xml. Changes to the list or date invalidate the previous output. The tool does not visit your URLs, discover links, inspect status codes or submit anything to a search engine.

Reading the result

Included URLs counts the entries written to the XML. Duplicates removed counts repeated addresses after fragment removal. Fragments removed counts input URLs containing a # section, including duplicates. The date is applied to every included URL; leave it empty if your pages have different modification dates.

The output is UTF-8 XML with a urlset and one loc per URL. XML characters are escaped, while the original path, query order, existing percent escapes and trailing slash are kept. Non-ASCII characters are percent-encoded. The protocol and host must be explicit. The generator does not choose a canonical address for you.

Two examples

https://example.com/about#team and https://example.com/about produce one entry, one removed fragment and one duplicate. The fragment identifies a section within a page, so it is excluded from the sitemap address.

https://example.com/search?a=1&b=2 becomes a loc containing ?a=1&b=2. That XML escape still means an ampersand when parsed. It does not change the query into a different URL. A date of 2024-02-29 is valid; 2025-02-29 is rejected.

Using your sitemap

Download the generated file and place it on your own site through your normal publishing process, commonly at the site root. Check that the listed pages are the pages you want indexed and that the sitemap location can cover their paths. The URLs should represent your preferred, accessible pages. This editor cannot verify availability or indexing eligibility.

The optional lastmod is the date the page content actually changed, not the date this file was generated. Do not add today’s date merely to make the sitemap appear fresh. Omit the field when you cannot supply an accurate shared date.

What limits apply?

At most 5,000 nonempty input lines and URLs shorter than 2,048 characters. Empty lines are ignored. Absolute HTTP and HTTPS URLs are accepted; spaces, credentials, malformed percent escapes and mixed hosts are rejected. A port is part of the host check. Error line numbers count nonempty lines.

Why are two similar URLs still separate?

Path case, query order, encoded characters and a trailing slash may affect server behavior. Only exactly matching strings after fragment removal and Unicode encoding are deduplicated. Review variations deliberately instead of assuming they are equivalent.

Does this replace a crawler or guarantee indexing?

No. It creates XML from your supplied list. Crawling, search-console submission and search-engine indexing are separate tasks. There is no index or ranking guarantee.

Is this the sitemap for this tool website?

No. The downloaded file describes your input URLs. It is separate from the sitemap used to publish this tool’s own website. URL lists are processed locally and are not saved automatically.
