Ski Size Calculator

Estimate an adult piste ski length from height and ability.

Your measurements

Processed in your browser.

——
Stand upright. Compare body height and tip-to-tail ski length.

Use a decimal point or comma; do not use thousands separators.

Result

Enter your measurements and calculate a starting size.

How to use

Enter your measurements, choose units and press Calculate. Use total inches when measuring in feet and inches: 5 ft 10 in is 70 in. A decimal point or comma is accepted. The pale example can be calculated immediately. Focus hides an example; leaving it empty restores the example. Your entered values remain until edited or cleared.

Editing a measurement invalidates the previous result. Calculate again before using Copy result. Copy includes the confirmed measurements, result and reference-only notice. Clear removes inputs and the result. Measurements are processed in your browser.

Calculation method

For groomed slopes: beginner = height minus 15 to 10 cm; intermediate = height minus 10 to 5 cm; expert = approximately body height. These are directly calculated rules, not a lookup of a retailer’s height table.

Examples

At 178 cm: beginner 163–168 cm, intermediate 168–173 cm, expert about 178 cm. At 70 in (177.8 cm), intermediate gives 167.8–172.8 cm.

Choosing equipment

A shorter ski can be easier to turn; a longer one can offer more stability. Rocker, effective edge, stiffness and terrain change the feel. The expert value is an approximate comparison point, not a requirement to find that exact nominal length.

Results are a starting point for comparison. Check the exact manufacturer and model before buying or altering equipment, and discuss the choice with a qualified equipment specialist. Nominal length alone does not determine how equipment performs.

Scope and limitations

This adult tool accepts 152–193 cm. These are tool input limits, not the limits of all ski products. It does not cover children, Nordic skiing, racing regulations, touring, or bindings. Weight and ski construction still matter, but no numerical weight correction is made.

General guidance only. Sizing varies by manufacturer and model. Check the product's sizing guide and consult a qualified equipment specialist before buying or changing equipment.

Is the result a size I must buy?

No. Read it as a starting measurement for a shortlist, then compare the sizes actually offered for your intended product. An exact number in the output is not a promise that a matching product exists or fits you. Different constructions can feel different at the same nominal length. If two available sizes bracket the result, bring both options and your measurements to a specialist rather than automatically selecting the closest number.

How should I take and enter measurements?

Use a level floor and a consistent standing position. Ask another person to read the tape if bending would change your posture. Measure twice when readings differ. Enter the number without typing a unit into the field, and select the matching unit beside it. Avoid guessing one body measurement from another: people of the same height can have different proportions. The illustration labels dimensions; it cannot check your posture or replace a tape measure.

Why can another calculator give a different answer?

A calculator can apply a different starting rule, product category or baseline. Compare those assumptions before comparing the final numbers. A difference alone does not establish which recommendation will suit you. This page explains the rule used so you can distinguish a unit conversion from a change of sizing method. Do not average unrelated recommendations and assume that the average is a verified fit; check the intended use of each recommendation first.

How precise are the displayed values?

Unit conversion preserves the measurement supplied, while displayed values are rounded for readability. One inch is exactly 2.54 centimetres. Decimal places introduced by conversion do not make the fitting method more accurate. Keep the original measurement and its unit when discussing the result with a shop. Copy the confirmed result after calculating, so the note includes the assumptions and limitations together with the numbers. Treat a rounded output as a reference rather than a cutting or setup instruction.
