How to use the speaking time calculator
- Choose whether you know the word count or the target time.
- Enter the value and adjust words per minute to match your own practiced pace.
- Select Calculate. Editing any input clears the previous estimate.
Formulas
Speaking minutes = words ÷ words per minute. Target words = target minutes × words per minute, rounded to a whole word.
Examples
780 words at 130 WPM takes about 6 minutes.
A 5-minute target at 120 WPM allows about 600 words.
Limits
- This is an estimate; pauses, audience interaction, emphasis, and rehearsal choices change the real time.
- The tool does not record audio or guess a pace from language. Measure your own WPM for a better estimate.
